Terms & Conditions

1. About J3DB

J3DB is a UK-based 3D printing and design service providing custom parts, prototypes, models, and small-batch production.

By submitting a project through the J3DB website, accepting a quote, or paying an invoice, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

2. Quotes

All quotes provided by J3DB:

• Are based on the information and files supplied by the customer
• Include assumptions stated within the quote
• Are valid until the expiry date shown on the quote

If project specifications, files, or requirements change after a quote has been issued, J3DB reserves the right to revise pricing accordingly.

Quotes are based on the specifications, files, and requirements provided at the time of quotation.

If project requirements change after a quote has been issued or accepted — including design revisions, additional features, or modifications to supplied files — J3DB reserves the right to issue a revised quote or apply additional charges where appropriate.

Acceptance of a quote does not constitute the start of production. Production begins only after delivery details have been confirmed and payment has been received.

3. Payment Terms

Payment terms are defined within each quote and invoice.

Generally:

• Projects under £100 require full payment upfront.
• Larger or design-intensive projects may require a 50% deposit before work begins.

Work will not begin until payment (or deposit) has been received.

Where a deposit is used, the remaining balance must be paid before dispatch of goods.

Production scheduling begins only after payment (or required deposit) has been received.

Due to material availability and production scheduling, quotes may expire if payment is not received within the validity period shown on the quote.

If payment is delayed beyond the quote validity period, J3DB reserves the right to review pricing and production timelines before proceeding.

4. Custom & Made-to-Order Products

All items produced by J3DB are custom-made or printed to order.

Because of the custom nature of these items:

• Orders cannot be cancelled once design work or printing has begun.
• Custom items are non-refundable unless faulty or not as described.

Customers are responsible for ensuring that all specifications, dimensions, and requirements are correct before approving a quote.

5. Design Work & Intellectual Property

5.1 Customer-Supplied Files

Customers may submit design files using:

• Direct ZIP upload through the J3DB website
• Secure cloud storage links (e.g. Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WeTransfer)
• Model marketplace links (e.g. Thingiverse, Printables, MakerWorld)

By submitting files, the customer confirms that:

• They have the legal right to use and authorise manufacture of those files.
• The files do not infringe third-party intellectual property rights.
• Any required commercial licences have been obtained.

J3DB:

• Does not claim ownership of customer-supplied designs.
• Acts solely as a manufacturing service provider for such files.
• Accepts no liability for intellectual property infringement arising from customer-supplied files.

Customers must ensure submitted files remain accessible during the project review and quotation stage.

If file access is revoked, restricted, or expires during this period, J3DB reserves the right to pause or cancel the quotation process.

5.2 J3DB-Created Designs

Where J3DB creates an original design or performs substantial design work:

• All intellectual property rights remain the property of J3DB unless agreed otherwise in writing.
• Upon full payment, the customer receives the right to use the produced physical item for its intended purpose.

Design files (such as STL, STEP, or editable CAD models) are not included in the standard service unless explicitly agreed in writing.

5.3 Minor Modifications

Where J3DB performs minor technical adjustments to customer-supplied files (such as resizing, tolerance adjustments, or printability fixes):

• Ownership of the original design remains with the customer.
• J3DB does not claim ownership of purely technical modifications required for manufacturing.

5.4 File Licensing & Transfers

Where design files are supplied as part of a project:

• Licensing terms will be agreed separately in writing.
• Additional fees may apply depending on intended use and exclusivity.
• Transfer of files does not automatically grant commercial or exclusive rights unless expressly stated.

5.5 Portfolio & Future Use

Unless otherwise agreed in writing:

• J3DB reserves the right to display or reference completed projects for portfolio or promotional purposes.
• Customer-specific confidential information will never be disclosed without permission.

6. Materials & Print Characteristics

3D printed parts produced using FDM technology may exhibit:

• Visible layer lines
• Minor surface variations
• Dimensional tolerances (typically ±0.2mm unless otherwise specified)

Material performance depends on the intended application.

Customers are responsible for ensuring the selected material is suitable for their intended use.

J3DB is not liable for failures caused by misuse, incorrect installation, or use outside recommended conditions.

7. Prototypes & Functional Parts

Where prototypes or functional parts are produced:

• Customers acknowledge that 3D printed parts may not match the strength or durability of injection-moulded or industrially manufactured components.
• Suitability testing remains the responsibility of the customer unless otherwise agreed.

8. Shipping & Delivery

Shipping costs are included as specified in the final invoice.

Delivery times are estimates and may vary depending on courier performance.

J3DB is not responsible for delays caused by shipping providers once items have been dispatched.

Responsibility for the item transfers to the customer once delivery has been confirmed by the courier.

9. Liability

J3DB’s liability is limited to the value of the order placed.

We are not liable for:

• Indirect or consequential loss
• Loss of business, profit, or opportunity
• Damage resulting from misuse of printed parts

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot legally be excluded under UK law.

J3DB is not liable for delays or failure to perform obligations due to events beyond reasonable control, including:

• equipment failure
• material shortages
• courier disruption
• unforeseen operational circumstances

10. Customer Responsibilities

Customers are responsible for:

• Providing accurate specifications and requirements
• Providing project files through a working upload or cloud storage link
• Ensuring submitted files remain accessible during review and quoting
• Reviewing quotes carefully before acceptance
• Ensuring parts are suitable for their intended application
• Providing correct delivery information

Customers are responsible for ensuring that submitted design files are suitable for 3D printing.

While J3DB may review files for basic feasibility, we cannot guarantee that customer-supplied models are free from design errors such as non-manifold geometry, thin walls, unsupported structures, or incorrect scaling.

Where file issues are identified before production, we may recommend modifications or provide a revised quote for file repair. If a file is printed as supplied and issues arise due to the design itself, this will not be considered a manufacturing fault.

J3DB does not guarantee that printed components are suitable for load-bearing, safety-critical, or regulated applications unless explicitly agreed in writing.

11. Outsourced Production

In some cases, J3DB may outsource printing to trusted manufacturing partners.

J3DB remains responsible for ensuring the final product meets the agreed specifications and quality standards.

12. Changes to Terms

J3DB reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions periodically.

The version in effect at the time of order acceptance will apply to that order.

These Terms & Conditions are governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
