3D Printing Process

Custom 3D Printing & Design Services

Practical parts, prototypes, modifications, and one-off custom projects.

From customer-supplied models to design-from-scratch projects, J3DB helps turn ideas, sketches, files, and practical problems into finished 3D printed parts.

What J3DB can help with

J3DB provides custom 3D printing, CAD design, model modification, and small-scale print-to-order services for practical parts, prototypes, creative projects, and one-off requests.

Whether you already have a 3D model, need a file adjusted, or want help turning an idea into a printable part, each project is reviewed individually before quoting.

3D Printing, CAD Design, and Model
Adjustment Services

J3DB focuses on small-scale custom work rather than mass production. Each request is reviewed based on the model, intended use, material, size, print time, design complexity, and any required adjustments.

Projects can include printing supplied STL, STEP, OBJ, or similar files, modifying existing models, creating parts from sketches or measurements, adapting designs for better printability, or producing small batches of custom parts.

Common project types include:

Practical replacement parts

Custom brackets, mounts, holders, and inserts

Prototype parts and proof-of-concept models

Customer-supplied model printing

Model repairs or file preparation

Small CAD modifications

Design-from-scratch requests

Small-batch or one-off custom work

Already Have a 3D Model?

If you already have a 3D model, J3DB can review it for printability and advise whether it is ready to print or needs adjustment first.

Customer-supplied models can often be printed as-is, but some files may need small changes to improve strength, fit, tolerances, assembly, or print reliability.

Examples include resizing holes, adjusting clearances, adding or removing fixing points, thickening weak areas, changing how a part assembles, or adapting a model to suit a specific component.

Need Something Designed From Scratch?

If you do not already have a 3D model, J3DB may be able to design one from measurements, sketches, reference images, or a clear description of what the part needs to do.

Design-from-scratch work is quoted separately because the time required can vary depending on complexity, accuracy, fitment, and the number of revisions needed.

How the Custom Project Process Works

1. Share Project details

Tell us about your idea, requirements, measurements, material needs, colour and quantity.

2. Upload files or share a link

Send a ZIP file through the form or provide a secure cloud or model link.

3. Project review

J3DB reviews feasibility, printability, material suitability and any design work required.

4. Clarification if needed

If anything needs confirming, J3DB may request extra details before preparing a quote.

5. Quote prepared

You receive a clear quote covering design, printing, materials and typical turnaround.

6. Work begins after acceptance/payment

Once the quote is accepted and payment is arranged, the project is scheduled for production.

Best Suited For

J3DB is best suited for practical, small-scale 3D printing and design work where attention to detail matters.

  • One-off parts

  • Functional prints

  • Custom modifications

  • Small prototypes

  • Hobby, maker, automotive, workshop, and household projects

  • Small batches where quoting is required

  • Parts that need review before printing

Less Suited For

  • Large mass-production runs

  • Urgent same-day production

  • Highly regulated or safety-critical components without proper engineering validation

  • Projects where exact material certification is required

  • Copyrighted or restricted designs without permission

Have a Part, Idea, or Model You’d Like Reviewed?
