- Resized the charger recess for a more secure fit
- Considered cable routing for a cleaner installation
A practical vehicle-specific upgrade designed to add wireless charging to the MG3 Hybrid centre console while keeping the installation clean and integrated.
This project began with a customer-supplied 3D model, which was used as the starting point for a custom modification. The aim was to adapt the existing design to suit the customer’s chosen Qi MagSafe wireless charging pad and improve the assembly method for a cleaner, more durable final part.
The original model used nut slots in the base, with countersunk M3 screws passing through the lid to hold the assembly together. As part of the redesign, this fixing method was changed to use threaded inserts instead. The unused nut slots were filled in, and the screw holes were widened to suit the new insert locations.
Further changes were made to accommodate the thicker wireless charging pad. The body of the part was increased in thickness, and the charger recess was resized so the pad could sit securely rather than being loose in the original wider opening.
The final part sits neatly within the MG3 Hybrid centre console tray and provides a clean, integrated wireless charging solution, with only the necessary USB-C cable length exposed to connect to a car charger adapter.
